We meet you at the airport in Pescara for transfer to a 4 star hotel located along the beach in Francavilla, a renowned Adriatic resort with fine shops and a great choice of restaurants.
Stage 1: Francavilla-Fossacesia 50 km, total climb 500 mts
After leaving Francavilla our route turns inland to wine country. A gentle incline will lead to the main wine town and we then proceed through vineyards, olives groves, small hamlets then back on the coast in Ortona. We will pass the Canadian War cemetery, a memorial to the fierce battle that took place here during WWII, before descending to the beach resort where we will be accommodated. This part of the Adriatic Coast is called ‘Costa dei Trabocchi’, home of the distinctive ancient wooden stilt constructions suspended above the sea for fishing. Before checking into the 4 star hotel located on the beach, a slight detour will allow for a visit to the magnificent XIII Century Romanic abbey
Stage 2: Fossacesia-Termoli 55 km, 200 mts
Heading southbound on rolling coastline crossing beautiful mariner villages, we cross the Sangro river passing by the British War memorial, through the scenic setting of Abruzzo’s southern coast. We stop at the next resort for lunch and then cycle into Molise where the road flattens all the way to the 4 star hotel. It is located on the wide sandy beach of Termoli that offers a rich variety of restaurants famed for seafood dishes.
Stage 3: Termoli-Lesina 43 km, 50 mts
The only short incline of the day is the one that will lead us out of Termoli. We will cross into Puglia where the flat coastal road crosses a wildlife area devoid of villages, and then leave the Adriatic road turning toward the Gargano Promontory. Here villages stretch on a lagoon rich in marine and bird wildlife. The charming B&B accommodation awaits us in the heart of town.
Stage 4: Lesina-Peschici 67 km, 200 mts
With the quiet lagoon on one side and agricultural fields on the other, a silent wilderness will accompany us through a short climb and then up to Rodi Garganico where we enter the heart of the Gargano Promontory, a National Park and one of Italy’s most beautiful seasides. Another short climb will lead to Peschici, an ancient jewel that hangs on a cliff overlooking the sea where stone-paved alleys and stairways suddenly open to sea views. Our 4 star hotel on the beach is walking distance from the old town.
Stage 5: Peschici-Mattinata 67 km 900 mts or 76 km 1200 mts (through a more scenic route)
The final ride is entirely set in the National Park of the Gargano promontory, cycling all the way to the white cliffs and beaches. The first and easier half of the ride takes us to the lovely town of Vieste after which the coast becomes more rugged where the ride rolls with short ups and downs. A long descent takes us to the Pugnochiuso Bay for a 4 km climb (the longest of the tour). This part can be skipped if we decide to remain on the main road where the two courses will meet again at the Baia delle Zagare. From here only a few more rolling miles before reaching our last hotel located on the beach.
