Enjoy a true cycling holiday, starting from one of the most beautiful stretches of the Adriatic Coast, famous for the Trabocchi, wooden fishing wharfs jutting out in the sea, and finishing atop one of the highest peaks of the Apennine mountain range. All fine hotels and inns chosen for this tour are located between the coast and the mountains, so after your rides you can spend your time between on the sandy beach along the Adriatic Sea, or immersed in birdsong typical of the Apennine area. As aperitif time approaches, you can stroll through the alleys of an old marine village or mountain hamlet where remarkable trattorias and restaurants are at your fingertips for a typically sumptuous abruzzese meal.

The itinerary

Day 1:

Arrival
Our host will welcome you at the elegant seaside hotel, just across from the beach. Here, he/she will be personally at hand for any questions, supplying you step by step with further guidelines on the information you will have received prior to departure. You may wish to take a stroll or relax in the elegant hotel or on the seaside before a freshly prepared meal arranged here at the hotel.

Day 2:
Stage 1: Ciclabile Costa dei Trabocchi 80 km, total climb 400 mts

After breakfast our cycling journey will be along the Ciclabile dei Trabocchi, a beautiful ride along the Adriatic Coast where you will discover beautiful coastal towns and wildlife as well as the original and unique “trabocchi”, the ancient fishing structures built on wooden poles into the Sea. After having been forgotten for decades, some of these structures are now exclusive restaurants as well.

DAY 3:
Stage 2: Marina San Vito loop 74k – 1,180mts tot climb
Heading Ride through Abruzzo’s best sceneries. Our route today turns inland toward wine country up to the foot of the Maiella Mountains. We will ride through vineyards, olives groves, small hamlets and then back to Marina San Vito.

Day 4:
Today, if you wish you can take an early morning cycling ride before coming back to the hotel and have breakfast before checking out. We transfer by van to L’Aquila, with an en route stop at one of the most famed wineries of the area. Here we have a tour, enjoy the scenery and have tastings of the fine nectar in three different varieties, accompanied by a light lunch before proceeding to our hotel in L’Aquila. Here we have ime to unwind and relax before dinner.

Day 5:
Stage 4: Campotosto lake loop 102km – 1200mts climb (through an even more scenic route)
After breakfast we depart for a classic mountain ride the lake loop through the beautiful setting of Monti della laga in Campotosto.

Day 6:
Stage 5: Sirente loop 104km – 1500mts climb
Today be prepared for another most beautiful ride as, after breakfast we will tackle a route named “where the eagles dare”, a challenging ride through the regional park of the Sirente Mountains.

Day 7:
Stage 6: Gran Sasso loop 87km - 1700mts climb
The crowning point of the tour ends with a beautifully rewarding climb to the highest peak of the Apennine mountain range.

Day 8:
After a comfortable breakfast you check-out of the hotel and easily proceed to the local coach or train station for your journey to the airport or destination of your choice.
